From the first note of Snowbeasts’ album DEVOUR, you realize it’s already too late to do anything but give in to total consumption by the music. DEVOUR is a journey through weird, wounded and wild worlds. “Distrust” opens the album with the insistence and drive of an army of demons. And the further one proceeds into sonic soundscapes like the eponymous “Devour,” “Velocity,” and “What Are You Dreaming?” the more one delves into the dark and stormy sounds of Snowbeasts. The beats are heavier than ever, crunching and pounding a path through the wastes. The synthetic tones boom and blast over this like hordes pouring past the wreckage of a battering ram. Elizabeth Virosa’s vocals are ghostly, enthralling and wholly enigmatic. There are worlds in each of these tracks, worlds that pull you in, feed you their weirdness then let you go to the next. “A Failed System” yields almost anthemic vocals over the insistence of the drums and synth drones. With each track you will become the embodiment of the hunger that lies within these tones until finally all you can think of is returning to these lands again to become consumed as Snowbeasts set to Devour you all over again.
